Book Review: Belonging to Heaven is the first of a new series I want to write about. I’ve been reading many books from Deseret Book and decided to let you guys know of a few of my favorites.
I was recently in Utah when I decided to stop by Deseret Book, one my favorite places to visit. Over the past 2 years I’ve purchased and read many books mostly on doctrine such as The Miracle of Forgiveness, and Jesus the Christ.
I haven’t read a novel since I was in high school , almost 10 years ago, and dislike to read novels, but as I walked by the shelf I was drawn by this book . I read the back cover and a few pages and decided to buy it.
That was 2 days ago and I finished it last night.
Belonging to Heaven by Gale Sears
The Author, Gale Sears, is amazing at storytelling, drawing you close to the characters as well as making you not want to put the book down!
The story is a historical novel based on George Q. Cannon’s mission to the Hawaiian Islands as well as Johnathan Napela’s life as a convert to the Church who was baptized by Elder Cannon. It is great at telling the many trials, hardships, sacrifice and miracles the Hawaiian Saints faced by becoming members of the LDS Church. Held by many ancient traditions and “Kapu”, they put social standings and jobs aside for the Kingdom of God. The story of these faithful saints and their dedication will not let you put the book down and have tears running down your face by the end.
My Recommendation is to go ahead a purchase it, any person who has been on a mission will definitely enjoy it as well as LDS Members all over the world.
